The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has expressed disappointment over the lack of cooperation from legislators in identifying the person in the chamber who targeted a "daughter of a murderer" insult at Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings and her father, the late former president and junta leader, Jerry John Rawlings, during proceedings.
Bagbin commented on the matter on May 27, 2025, at the start of the second meeting of the ninth Parliament.

He was speaking on the status of investigations into the incident, which occurred during proceedings on February 4, 2025.
According to Bagbin, despite the availability of CCTV footage and eyewitnesses, no legislator has come forward to name the person who made the insulting comment.
“The investigations are still ongoing, but to be frank with you, I am very disappointed with all of you."
”A member seated in this House, surrounded by colleagues, uttered certain words, yet not a single colleague can identify who it was. Even those of you sitting together, specifically the three of you who have been identified in that area, cannot point out the member responsible.”
In April, Bagbin ordered an investigation to identify the legislator who insulted Agyeman-Rawlings.
Bagbin also issued a one-week ultimatum to the MP responsible for the slur to own up.
Rawlings was a former military leader who ruled the country from 1981 to 1992 as its Head of State.
The insults directed at his daughter are believed to be linked to human rights abuses and killings that occurred under his junta.
Rawlings would later serve as the then democratically elected President of Ghana between 1992 and 2000, after ruling as a military leader from December 31, 1981.

The Greater Accra National Democratic Congress Volta Diaspora Caucus most recently petitioned Bagbin to investigate the incident.
The J.J. Rawlings Foundation also petitioned Parliament to investigate controversial remarks in February.
"Mr. Speaker, it is disheartening and disturbing when the House that is expected to protect the image and reputation of past leaders of this country who worked hard to maintain and protect institutions like Parliament, receive abuse and offensive behaviour as occurred on Tuesday, February 4, 2025."
