Kwabenya SHS Students Erupt in Joy as President Mahama Says Hi to Them, Video Sparks Joy

Students of Kwabenya Community Day Senior High School were filled with excitement and joy when President John Dramani Mahama greeted them during his recent visit to the school.

This happened during the 2025 World Environment Day marked on June 5, 2025.

Mahama marks Environment Day at Kwabenya SHS

President Mahama, on June 5, 2025, joined students and teachers of the Kwabenya Senior High School to commemorate the day.

He delivered a speech at the event and planted a tree, and witnessed others do the same. During the event, two young ladies dressed in the Kwabenya SHS uniform, who were also in attendance, called out to the President and said "hi."

To their delight, the President showed his friendly side by responding to their greeting and waving at them.

The students were overwhelmed with joy. They laughed and beamed with excitement, overjoyed that the President had acknowledged them.

The beautiful moment was captured in a video that has since gone viral on social media, spreading happiness among viewers.

Mahama promises to ban single-use plastics

During his address, President Mahama announced plans to ban the importation and production of Styrofoam in Ghana, citing its significant contribution to environmental pollution.

He described Styrofoam as one of the most harmful pollutants, particularly due to its widespread use in food packaging and asked producers of the product to prepare to stop producing and importing it.

Mahama hailed for greeting Kwabenya SHS students

Netizens who saw the video of the President's reaction to the students were impressed. Many commended him for displaying his soft side in public, arguing that some past presidents would not have acted in the same manner.

Ghanaian counsellor hails President Mahama

Speaking exclusively to YEN.com.gh, Ghanaian counsellor, Eric Okai, shared his views on President Mahama's greetings to the students.

"It's good to see the soft side of a President. He made the students happy by responding to their greeting, and I think that's not bad. It shows he's humble," he said.

Mahama signals chiefs to sit during greetings

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that President John Dramani Mahama asked chiefs to remain seated while he exchanged pleasantries with them. The President met some chiefs in the Greater Accra region at the Ghanata Old School Park in Doodowa during his 'Thank You' tour on Friday, May 16, 2025.

When he was getting closer to them so he could greet them, the chiefs started rising from their seats. However, John Mahama signalled them to sit down so he would greet them.

Many applauded him for showing the chiefs the needed respect, while others accused him of being a people pleaser.
