In a statement issued by his wife, Angela Ofori-Atta, on June 16, she disclosed that the surgery lasted over four hours.
“The doctors are pleased with how the procedure went and will now place him on a postoperative regime.”
She described the period leading up to the operation as particularly difficult, citing the timing of an Interpol alert that began through a request by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
“Kenneth has always been resilient. But this has been very difficult; with the OSP choosing the period just before his surgery to declare a red alert on him."
Despite the emotional strain, she said Ofori-Atta was 'bearing up well' and remains focused on regaining his health.
The former minister is already facing intense scrutiny from the Office of the Special Prosecutor, which declared him wanted on June 2 and put out a Red Notice for him.
Ofori-Atta is under investigation for five cases, including contractual arrangements between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority, as well as procurement procedures and financial transactions related to the National Cathedral.
Ofori-Atta’s family challenges red notice
Meanwhile, Ofori-Atta’s family called for the immediate withdrawal of an Interpol Red Alert notice issued by the Office of the Special Prosecutor, accusing the OSP of manipulating evidence to secure an arrest warrant without following due legal process.
The family of the former Finance Minister, who served under former President Nana Akufo-Addo, said it had submitted formal requests to the National Central Bureau and the Commission for the Control of Interpol’s Files (CCF) to have the notice withdrawn.

The family maintained that Ofori-Atta has been undergoing treatment at the Mayo Clinic in the US for cancer. He was scheduled for surgery on June 13, 2025, and had requested a video-recorded interview instead of an in-person meeting.
Back in February, the former minister appealed to the special prosecutor to remove his name from the wanted list and pledged to return to Ghana in May. The special prosecutor subsequently reversed the wanted notice.
In March, Ofori-Atta sued the OSP, seeking compensation for previously being declared wanted. That case has been adjourned to June 18. He has not taken any legal action following the recent developments.
EOCO, NIB also after Ofori-Atta
YEN.com.gh also previously reported that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) also confirmed they were after Ofori-Atta.
Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai has said the government had initiated processes to extradite the former Finance Minister, with the OSP leading these efforts.
